New story sale to Rocket Science anthology

I’m very excited to report that I’ve sold a new short story “Conquistadors” to the upcoming Rocket Science anthology!

Rocket Science is an anthology of realistic and authentic hard science fiction stories and non-fiction articles which depict space travel and its hazards. The book is edited by Ian Sales and due to be published in April 2012 by Mutation Press.

My story “Conquistadors” is about the exploration and commercial exploitation of a near-Earth asteroid. I really enjoyed researching the realities of space travel, and I’m sure it will help me with other stories in future.

Many thanks to Ian Sales for letting my story in through the Rocket Science airlock! There’s a constellation of talented and interesting writers confirmed in the anthology table of contents, and it promises to be a great book. I’m looking forward to getting a freshly-printed copy and meeting other contributors at the launch event at Eastercon, Olympus 2012.

Ian is maintaining a Rocket Science News blog about the development of the anthology, which is fascinating reading for anyone interested in sf writing and publishing.

I’ve won the Concept Sci-Fi short story competition!

I’m very happy today! Not only is it the first day of my holidays, but I had my first fiction publication. My short story ‘Bringer of War‘ won the Concept Sci-fi ezine short story competition and was published today in Issue 6!

Many thanks to Concept Sci-Fi editor Gary Reynolds for shortlisting me. And many many thanks to star SF writer and competition judge Sean Williams for picking me as the winner (and for writing some very nice things in the foreword!).

Hopefully this boost will encourage me to get more written and submitted. Cheers!
